The Banshee Embrace The Banshee Embrace Trilogy Book 1 edition by Victoria Richards Paranormal Romance eBooks

Jacqueline is a grieving widow, a year out from the horrific and unexplainable death of her husband. She's having a really hard time with the memories of that night. She finds herself wanting to do even more unexplainable things, like sing through her deepest grieving times. She goes out with one of her friends to a local bar, that apparently they frequent on a weekly basis at least. And that's when the stuff hits the fan.
In only a few hours, she finds out, she is part banshee, the local bar owner is a wizard, there are other wizards, and she needs to die. Personally I think she handles it all pretty well, until the danger goes away, adrenaline wears out, and she completely collapses mentally.
The beginning of the story was a little confusing, a little stumbling to the start. Once you got past it though and into the bar, the book took off. There were parts to it I didn't agree with. Personally, I don't see a grieving widow who obviously loves her late husband, to be kissing or sleeping with someone else at the year anniversary of her husband's death. That's just me.
Overall, it was a great quick read that explored a myth many paranormal books shy away from, a banshee. I hope to read the others in the series as well eventually.

Book Review
The Banshee’s Embrace (Book One) by Victoria Richards
Four Stars
A Banshee is an urban legend that speaks of a woman who lost a love and her sorrow was so great she screamed. She then is able to sense the death of others as it approaches.
In this creation, Jacqueline (main character) really has no clue why after her husband’s murder she has been going through some weird things. It isn’t under the local bartender, also wizard who has been watching over her without her knowledge, sees her stagger and begin to sing uncontrollably as a local drunk is hit by a car and dies right in front of them, that he realizes she has no idea what is up with her.
Toby, the bartender and wizard, then proceeds to bring her into a world she never knew existed. She is somewhat of an anomaly and people want her as a weapon because she is only half true banshee which makes her dangerous. In this legend the Banshee is also a spirit, however she is all alive. Because of this, she can not only pull and detach the souls from a dead body but also from a living being as well. This would make her a deadly weapon. It’s Toby’s job to kill her to make her less dangerous to everyone. He actually tells her this. How comfy would you be around someone who says, “Oh, by the way, I have to kill you?” Me, not so much!
Toby and Jacqueline are assaulted by people trying to capture her for a weapon. Does he kill her? I won’t tell.
Did I like the book enough to read the next? Yes, I think the book has potential. It isn’t long and it doesn’t leave any huge cliff hangers. It is a complete book and you can stop with just this one if you choose to. However, because I don’t read about Banshees often I may continue to see where it leads. In this book she comes face to face with her husband’s murderer. Who he is and what part he then plays is interesting. I am sure he will be in book two as well. She does find love again even though she didn’t think she would. It’s a fast and easy read. Not very explicate in my opinion, but other reviews say it is, so use digression if you don’t like that. Really it’s a quick read; I think I read it in less than 12 hours total. Not my favorite, but not bad either.
Wow - first book that I have read by this author and it was amazing!!!

I really love when I read a book and it surprises me and catches me totally off guard and that's just what this one did! Jacqueline has a big problem--she's a half banshee. She finds herself in danger when a group of wizards find out about her amazing new ability to reap souls. Luckily, Toby - the bartender of her favorite bar is there to save her. I don't write spoilers - but there is so much in the story that will keep you in suspense.

I found that while reading this book, that it is hard to put it down. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series now!!!
Generally speaking, I enjoy stories that embrace the paranormal and mythology and that holds mostly true for this one. Richards has a good premise for her story. A young woman's husband is killed trying to protect her and in the process finds herself inexplicably not only drawn to death when it happens in her vicinity, but to sing as it happens. Over time, she finds herself drawn into a world she had no idea existed and learns she is slowly turning into a banshee. Unknown to Jacqueline through most of the book, as a half banshee, she is a power to be reckoned with. People are trying to capture her for their own dark reasons.

This book has all the usual components of this type of story. There's romance, loss, revenge, greed, a few surprises, and a good plot. What the story lacks to make this book truly compelling are both characters, and a plot that are fully developed. There are places in the story where the plot is still a bit rough as well as events happening out of sequence that need to be addressed (i.e. - asking her mother if she's adopted after telling Toby she is). While the problems in this book are not severe enough to warrant pulling it off the shelves, they are significant enough to detract from the reading experience.

Due of the lack of sufficient editing, I can only give this book 3 stars. I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book in 24 hours. I could not put it down. Jaqueline is a young woman who's been widowed by a cop husband in front of her as he was saving her life..... And regularly has horrible dreams about that night. She tries to forget the stuff she doesn't understand until she can't avoid it anymore. Toby is this hot scruffy bartender she sees all the time at the local bar. Totally has the hots for him. One night they have no choice to have some serious conversations about who she really is.... Wizards...banshees, shape shifters... Hags... This book was awesome from the first three pages on. Must must must read. Not giving anything else up. But I can not wait for the next book.
